AnimeGO! Japan Pop Culture Festival is brought to you by the Japan Australia Friendship Association (JAFA)



It is with great pleasure that we announce the 2019 panel of judges for the Short Anime Film Competition and the 4-Koma Manga Competition.

2019 Competition Judges


Queenie Chan

Queenie Chan was born in Hong Kong, and migrated to Australia when she was six years old. Her first published work was 'The Dreaming', a mystery-horror series for LA-based manga publisher TOKYOPOP, which has since been translated into multiple languages. She then collaborated on several manga with best-selling author Dean Koontz for his ‘Odd Thomas’ series, as well as with author Kylie Chan for ‘Small Shen’. After that, she worked on several anthologies, and completed a fairytale inspired fantasy series called 'Fabled Kingdom'.


She is currently studying a Masters of Research degree at Macquarie University, and creating a series of non-fiction children's comics about historical queens. Please visit for more information.

Queenie Chan will be a judge for the 4-Koma Manga Competition, as well as doing a talk at the festival in 

"Manga, Anime, Gaming and the Future of Drawing":

The top 20 4-Koma manga entrants will be on display at the AnimeGo! Festival. One will be chosen by the guests as the Audience Award.

Judging Criterial & Panel

Entries will be judged on the use of the cultural theme and the basis of originality, storytelling, character design, manga artistic ability and style.

JAFA will appoint a judging panel to judge the manga entered in the AnimeGO! 4-Koma Manga Competition. This panel will be comprised of industry professionals and JAFA committee members and others (Panel).
