General

What is the AnimeGO! Japan Pop Culture Festival?

AnimeGO! Japan Pop Culture Festival began in 2016 as a film festival showcasing old and new anime films. It has since evolved to encompass all aspects of Japanese pop culture: art, fashion, food, games, plus more. The festival features workshops, demonstrations and panel talks by industry professionals, as well as stalls by local artists, a maid café and your favourite Japanese arcade games. AnimeGO! does not follow the traditional convention format – in fact, we’re not a convention at all! As the name implies, AnimeGO! Japan Pop Culture Festival follows in the steps of its sister event, Kodomo no Hi Japan Festival, to recreate the matsuri atmosphere from Japan. Our focus is on showcasing the cultural elements of Japan, with a pop culture twist. You’ll find fresh yakitori being served up at the BBQ, complemented by Japanese beer, for that izakaya feel; Japanese sweets will transport you to the backstreets of Harajuku, lined with endless dessert cafes; and our arcade area, whilst not a towering Taito Station in Akihabara, will give you a taste of some popular pastimes

When is the AnimeGO! Japan Pop Culture Festival?

The festival will be held on Saturday the 21st of November 2020, from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Do I need to bring my ID? What if I don’t have ID?

All attendees must be able to prove their identity and age or be with a parent or legal guardian who can. Without applicable ID, you may not be able to enter the festival. For those 18+ years or older looking to purchase alcohol from the bar, ID must be presented.

Should I pre-purchase my ticket?

We strongly recommend pre-purchasing tickets online. As part of our COVID-Safe plan, we will be limiting the number of tickets available and will be conducting contact tracing. Purchasing your tickets online ensures we have all your necessary details beforehand. Because of this, all pre-purchase ticket holders will be given priority access to the festival over those who are buying tickets on the day.

Can I dress up and/or cosplay?

Absolutely! We encourage anyone and everyone to dress in Japanese pop culture.

What is JAFAs and AnimeGOs position on COVID-19 at the festival?

The Japan Australia Friendship Association and the AnimeGO! Japan Pop Culture Festival planning sub-committee take the safety of its attendees very seriously. As such we have prepared COVID-SAFE and COVID-MANAGEMENT plans.

These plans include managing the number of people that can enter the venue at one time, cleaning processes and emergency procedures.

How many people can access the festival at one time?

Based on the currently restriction the max number of people that can enter the venue is ________. Individuals for whom have pre-purchased tickets will receive priority entry over those who purchase on the day.

How do I know it is safe to come the festival?

We are continuing taking advice from Government and health authorities on the best way to create a safe event.

It will be made very clear that for all participants, staff, and volunteers that they must not attend the festival if they are unwell. In addition everyone is to practice good hygiene and follow the COVID-Safe procedures.

Current COVID-Safe procedures also include:

  • Cleaning of all tables, chairs, equipment and other high touch areas regularly throughout the day.
  • Hand sanitisers available near entry points and at all stalls.
  • Sharing of materials to be avoided where possible, and, if not, provisions made for them to be wiped down after each use.
